Phase I - Next Steps
Moving forward I want to incorporate the following 3 findings from phase one to my next phase:
- I believe the most significant finding from my assessment was that students were favorable with the idea of choosing the style of learning. Looking ahead, I want to continue to give my students an option to learn math through projects or problems and lecture.
- I would limit some variables in order to see what effect project-based learning can have on my students achievement. Therefore, I will not be assessing the students in the project-based learning group the same way I will the problem-based learning group. In phase one, I gave students the choice of assessment, in the next phase I will not give students choice on how they are assessed.
- Students are hovering around a 3 out of 5 on a five point Likert-scale in regards to feeling challenged makes me want to present more challenging work. Instead of straight-forward problems where students simply graph and plug in numbers, I would like to offer more open-ended and rich problems from a wider range of sources. Similarly, the project-based group ought to have more challenging material as well.
